Wissuns Class Resumption Initiative in Quake Zone
By:Wissun   Date:2009.6

On June 4, representatives from Hong Kong Wissun Group, accompanied by the production crew of Southeast TVs Bond across the Straits, arrived at the Jushui Town Central Primary School in the earthquake-hit An County, bringing with them RMB 150,000 worth of supplies intended to help local schoolchildren return to school as soon as possible. This was Wissuns third donation to the quake zone after a donation of RMB 1 million worth of nutritional food and a voluntary donation of RMB 83,600 from its employees.

Prior to this, the production team of Southeast TVs Bond across the Straits received a phone call for assistance from the An County Education Bureau in Sichuan. It turned out that many schools in the county were struggling to resume class due to a shortage of desks and chairs. Although local volunteers had made generous donations, the funds raised were still insufficient. Thus, the education bureau sought support from TV and philanthropic enterprises to help get the children back to school.

Upon hearing the news, Wissun immediately formed a volunteer team to help the affected schools resume classes. The team, headed by Vice General Manager Lin Yong, flew to Chengdu by night. The next morning, the team arrived at a local market to purchase stationery and classroom desks and chairs, and Wissuns Chengdu branch immediately arranged for trucks to pick up the purchases and supplies from the warehouse. After a day and a nights hard work, the goods were loaded onto the trucks bound for the Jushui Town Central Primary School, and the volunteer team continued its journey to their destination as planned.

As the teaching building of the Jushui Town Central Primary School had been rendered structurally unsafe by the earthquake, classes were conducted in tents set up on the schools playground. At the donation ceremony, in addition to the RMB 150,000 worth of goods that would help the resumption of classes, Wissuns volunteers and producers from Southeast TVs Bond across the Straits also handed out stationery and nutritional food to the students.

To express their gratitude for our assistance, a student representative read out an emotional thank-you letter at the ceremony, and asked the young pioneers to tie a red scarf around the neck of each volunteer, which symbolized purity and honor. This greatly moved all volunteers present. Before the ceremony ended, the volunteers struck up enthusiastic conversations with the students to find out more about their life and studies. They also provided psychological counseling for the students and encouraged them to study hard. After that, the volunteers also talked with local education authorities. Upon learning of the hardships faced by the school, Wissun executives pledged greater assistance for the school to restore classes.

After leaving the primary school, Wissun executives and the production crew visited quake-stricken Guangming, Yuanbao and Donglin villages, bringing with them Wissun nutritional food and other supplies.

Wissuns Class Resumption Initiative is a testament to its commitment to public wellbeing, to its consistent efforts to give something back to the community, and to its devotion to philanthropy. This is closely related to Wissuns emphasis on learning, innovation, science and corporate culture, and is also a showcase of Wissuns unique corporate culture. We are confident that with Wissuns generous contributions, the students at the Jushui Town Central Primary School will be able to get though these hardships, and continue the glorious traditions and charity of Wissun and the Chinese nation to help others in need.

Editors Postscript: Wissun volunteers who visited the Jushui Town Central Primary School told us that the walls of the classrooms set up in the tents were adorned with lyrics from various songs such as Sunshine Always Follows Storms, Tomorrow Will Be Better, and Fill the World with Love, demonstrating the will of the students in the quake zone to overcome any difficulty. We are sure that they will emerge from this earthquake braver and stronger, and that a bright future lies ahead for them.
